Adult Family Care

Care. Support. Resources. – Helping individuals and families to thrive.

Adult Family Care offers Massachusetts residents who are eligible for MassHealth and who meet the state’s eligibility criteria an opportunity for a family-centered living experience.

The Arc of Bristol County’s Adult Family Care (AFC) program offers residents of Massachusetts who need assistance with activities of daily living due to frailty, chronic illness, advanced age, or cognitive, physical or mental disability the opportunity to live, safely, in a family home. AFC gives participants an opportunity to live with trained, paid caregivers.

AFC provides nursing and case management services, and partners with the participant and their caregiver to offer on-going support and resources. Caregivers also receive a monthly stipend.

AFC participants must be at least 16 years of age, qualify for MassHealth, require assistance with one or more activities of daily living, and be willing to participate in the program.

Caregivers may be family members or members of the community. A caregiver cannot be a participant’s spouse, parent of a minor, including adoptive parent, or any legally responsible relative of the participant. Caregivers must pass background checks and be able to provide appropriate care within a qualified setting.

The Arc of Bristol County is committed to supporting AFC participants and caregivers to provide a unique, family-centered living experience. Each participant receives the assistance they need with personal care and activities of daily living so they can remain as independent as possible. The Arc’s goal is to provide participants with full inclusion in the family and community at large. The Arc has extensive experience in supporting people who participate in AFC with their family of origin.
