proAbility

Named for its focus on Ability, the team at proAbility, a division of The Arc of Bristol County, continually challenges themselves to meet the needs of Rhode Island children, families, and adults through a wide array of services.

Unlike other organizations that provide similar services, proAbility does not fit the individual to the service, but designs the service around the individual. We take great pride in working directly with individuals, families, our funders, and the Rhode Island community to provide creative supports even if it requires us to redesign our service delivery model. In each program, we will assist in the evaluation of current skill levels, goals, and areas of need to design a program that fits best for YOU.

proAbility provides family support services to individuals who reside with their family members in Rhode Island. These services are an opportunity for these individuals to enhance their skill development while continuing to reside with their family. Services are individualized and range according the needs and interests of the individual and family being supported. proAbility’s Direct Support Professionals offer skill development services in the area of:

  • Self Care
  • Independent Living Skills
  • Social Skill Development
  • Other Identified Areas of Need

proAbility staff will work closely with you and your family to ensure that your Family Supports Services are designed to enhance your personal growth and skill development. This will be achieved via the development of an Individual Support Plan and ongoing contact with you and your family.

Residential & Family Supports

proAbility has designed a variety of programs to help support individuals who are living in a private home with a family, or who have chosen to live independently in the community in Rhode Island. Services include both 24 hour and non 24 hour care where our dedicated team of direct support professionals assists with daily tasks from self care and cooking meals, to providing opportunities to socialize in the community with peers. proAbility also provides Shared Living services for individuals who are matched with a Rhode Island host family.

Day & Employment Services

Our Day Services programming allows individuals a wide variety of opportunities to work independently or supported in the community, volunteer at an activity of interest or learn a new skill including computer and cooking classes. Services are supported by our direct support professional team and may be one or one or in a group depending on the individuals specific goals and needs.

Home Based Therapeutic Services (HBTS)

Our Home-Based Therapeutic Services Program provides intensive home and community services to children aged 3 to 21 with special health care needs. This program is designed to enhance the independence of the child and the entire family.

Shared Living Arrangements

proAbility also offers individuals opportunities to live in the community with a host family. These arrangements offer an individual the opportunity to live in a family environment with supports provided by the family or person who has become the Shared Living provider. The Shared Living Provider offers shelter and care to the individual residing in their home. Together they share a home as the individual grows in theareas identified in their individualized service plan.

Our Residential Coordinator works closely with both the Individual and Shared Living Provider on an ongoing basis; assisting as needs arise.

Those interested in Shared Living Arrangements, as either a recipient of the service or those who may be interested in becoming a Shared Living Provider, are encouraged to contact proAbility for more information.
